Continental Tobacco held its traditional opening meeting on 15 January at the Sátoraljaújhely tobacco factory. At the event, CEO Csaba Füzi summarised the highlights of 2023, gave an insight into the company’s achievements and presented the plans for 2024.

The year 2023 brought a number of milestones for the tobacco factory, including the successful integration of the factory hall and tobacco preparation line, which was inaugurated at the end of 2022, winning a special prize in the Factory of the Year competition, and has been operating at high capacity since then, and the expansion of the logistics infrastructure with a warehouse area of around 8,000 square metres next to the factory.

Significant progress has also been made in tobacco production, with a landmark 50 percent increase in the tobacco buy-back floor price, which has provided significant support to tobacco growers, and the successful buy-back of Virginia tobacco, which the Group completed with a 50 per cent increase compared to 2022.

Looking ahead to 2024, Csaba Füzi said the company is looking to the future with a flexible strategy and commitment, ready to adapt to industry changes and continue to support domestic tobacco production. The CEO stressed that regulatory changes could affect the market after 2024.
