The third generation of the Sánta family has acquired a stake in Ventas Coffee Kft., the holding company of the Continental Tobacco Group, increasing the Sánta family’s share in the enterprise, which also owns the 133-year-old Sátoraljaújhely Tobacco Factory.

The Continental Tobacco Group was founded by two Hungarian entrepreneurs in 1996, and Ventas Coffee Kft., the holding company that encompasses the Group, has remained under the ownership of these two families.

As part of a transaction concluded on October 31, Jumpy Investment Kft. and Caudal Investment Kft., owned by the youngest members of the Sánta family, each acquired an 11.25% stake from VLH Vagyonkezelő és Befektetési Kft., part of the Veszelovszki family holdings. Following the transaction, the Sánta family now holds a total of 72.5% of Ventas Coffee Kft.

Family as a core part of corporate culture

The institution of family plays a pivotal role in the life of the Continental Tobacco Group, which owns the more than 130-year-old tobacco factory in Sátoraljaújhely. Beyond being a family-owned business, Continental is a community where multiple generations of the same family frequently work side by side, reinforcing the company’s strong spirit of unity. Today, there are even fourth-generation employees working in the tobacco factory whose great-grandparents once held jobs there.

As a result, the Group places particular emphasis on supporting families and actively promotes responsible intergenerational transitions within family-owned businesses in Hungary. This commitment manifests in the form of various employer support programs and is further reflected in the Group’s membership in the Family Business Network Hungary (FBN-H), a public benefit association founded by successful Hungarian business families. FBN-H is dedicated to supporting the economic and social value creation of responsible, long-term family-owned businesses in Hungary.
